In addition, we have compiled a list of tips to help you transition and settle into your new Boise lifestyle quickly.

Average Boise Climate and Weather

Idaho has a variety of climates, which can be influenced by Pacific weather patterns. Boise experiences all four seasons, with winters averaging in the 30's and 40s and summers averaging in the 80's and 90's. Make sure you bring a bathing suit AND a warm coat!

What to Do at the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles

According to the Idaho DMV, you have 90 days to transfer your driver's license to Idaho and register any cars you have under the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles. You can book appointments on the Idaho DMV website and find a list of helpful resources to consult when applying for an Idaho license plate, Idaho vehicle registration tag, Idaho identification card, or Idaho star card.

Having the star on your Idaho driver's license means your U. S. residency and citizenship have been verified. All US citizens will be required to have one to fly by the end of 2021, so don't put it off! To apply for an Idaho driver's license with a star, you will need the following:

  • Your birth certificate
  • Your social security card
  • Two proofs of residency that show your new Idaho address, such as utility bills

Once you've applied for your Idaho license, you may also begin the process of transferring your vehicle titles and registrations to Idaho. To do this, make sure you bring:

  • The title of the vehicle (if a lienholder has the title, bring their name and address)
  • The current registration of the vehicle
  • The vehicle itself, so that the DMV can inspect the VIN

Boise Road Conditions

To ensure that your move goes smoothly, you can check the latest travel information at the Idaho Transportation Department's Travel website. This will help you avoid traffic backups from construction or other hazards. You can also check here for road conditions during the wintertime.
