Planning A Mother Earth Friendly Move
As a moving company we understand the importance of reducing the carbon footprint associated with residential or commercial moves. At Cross Town Movers, we strive to implement eco-friendly practices that not only benefit the environment but also our customers.
Here are some tips on how to reduce your carbon footprint during a move.
1. Use Sustainable Packaging Materials
When it comes to packing, we always recommend using sustainable materials. Instead of using single-use plastic packing materials, we use recycled paper for cushioning fragile items. Additionally, each of our trucks contain approximately 60 padded, reusable moving blankets that we use to wrap furniture to protect it during transport. You could also consider using soft fabric (dish towels, blankets, etc) in lieu of paper for packing fragile decor items. We offer wardrobe boxes for rent allowing us to reuse gently used boxes for several moves ensuring we reduce waste. Finally, consider using reusable moving boxes instead of cardboard boxes.
After you have moved in, locate a nearby company (or friend) that may need your slightly used moving boxes. Be sure to recycle any materials that can’t be reused!
2. Choose an Eco-Friendly Fleet
At Cross Town Movers, we understand that our trucks contribute to our carbon footprint. That's why we continually invest in upgrading our fleet to more eco-friendly trucks. Our trucks are always kept up to date on current emissions standards and receive on-going maintenance. Utilizing our 26 foot box trucks eliminates the need for multiple trips with a smaller truck or your personal car.
3. Plan the Route
When planning a move, we always plan the most efficient route possible. This helps to reduce the amount of fuel used and the carbon emissions produced during the transport of your furniture and furnishing to your new home. By avoiding rush hour traffic or congested routes, we can increase fuel efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint.
We have been providing moves in the greater Boise area for over 30 years and are very familiar with convenient ways to navigate around Boise, Nampa, Eagle, Meridian and the surrounding areas. For more information on how to make your move more effective check out our other blogs here!
4. Donate and Recycle
We always encourage our customers to declutter their homes before packing. This not only reduces the number of items moved, but it also reduces the amount of waste created. We always recommend donating items to local charities or non-profit organizations, which helps to reduce waste and benefit those in need.
As you get closer to your move date try to plan your meals so that you minimize the amount of food that might be wasted. The night before your move can be stressful at times, here are some tips to help with what to do the night before your move.
6. Use Energy-Efficient Lighting
During the move, it’s important to keep the home well-lit to ensure safety. However, we always recommend using energy-efficient light bulbs. LED bulbs are an excellent choice because they use less energy and last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. By using energy-efficient lighting, we can reduce our carbon footprint and save our customers money on their utility bills.
7. Work with your professional mover to optimize your move
